    Mid-October Lunchtime Walk

Shortly after noon, I looked up from my desk to see a balmy1Upper 60’s. Not a cloud in the sky. mid-October day inviting me to a lunchtime walk. Who was I to decline?

Grabbing my camera, I headed out for a clockwise 1.5 mile walk around Hawthorn Farm. I snapped pictures of fall leaves in between kicking and stomping the acorns scattered about.

Halfway around, I spied a great blue heron stalking. I paused to take a picture and saw it strike, coming up with a small creature in its bill. A mouse?

A one o’clock meeting placed a hard stop on my trek, so I hurried the remainder of the circuit.

    Another beautiful day!2Aren’t they all? :-) :-)

    A View From 4A

An early morning flight from HIO to MHR for a day in FM7. I sat in seat 4A and took a few pictures at the beginning of the flight.

Update: On the flight home, I sat in an aisle seat, so no pictures. :-(

  • Morning Ride

    Morning Ride

I’m working from home this morning; a window installer is coming by to give me a quote on replacing a window. My morning white mocha was still calling me, though, so I rode my bike to Starbucks and sat in a chair outside to enjoy my drink.

On the way home, I saw this view across the Hillsboro airport to Portland’s West hills.

  • Hillsboro Fourth of July Parade 2011

Hillsboro Fourth of July Parade 2011

Hillsboro’s Fourth of July parade is a don’t-miss affair for us. We’ve gone many times and have learned a few things in the process:

    • If you want lots of candy, find a spot near the beginning of the route. Most of the parade participants throw candy to the spectators. They are a generous bunch; they just don’t know how to pace themselves when it comes to throwing candy. We learned the hard way one year when we watched near the end of the route. Oops! We were healthy that year. (If you’re serious about collecting candy, bring a bag. You’ll get more than will fit in your pockets.)
    • Sunscreen and hats are necessary most years, coats and umbrellas the others. You’ll want to bring water to drink every year.
    • Bring your camera and a long lens. I like the people shots and a wide-angle lens just won’t cut it.

    Objects in the Sky

On the way to work, I stopped at my favorite photo spot and took pictures in the standard two directions. Both pictures include objects not normally included.

The temperature was a cool 50°, perfect for biking.

  • Another Good Friday

    Another Good Friday

It’s Friday! The weather is gorgeous. Here are a few of the shots I took on the ride to work.1Yes, taking pictures slows down the commute. For that matter, so does stopping at Starbucks. At least taking pictures keeps me from showing up to work all sweaty.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

This is day 8 on the bike this year.

  • Another Beautiful Morning

    Another Beautiful Morning

Another day, another chance to ride my bike to work. The professional weather predictors said rain, but my trusty weather rock said, “Not yet.”

I stopped at Starbucks along the way and cooled in a chair outside, watching the people go by. It was great to start with no: no book, no magazine, no music, no computer, and no talk show host. Just me and my white mocha, planning the day.

My plans completed, I freed my bike and pedaled the rest of the way to work. Opposite the Hillsboro airport, I had to stop and take a couple of pictures of the sky.

Will it rain? Maybe, maybe not. ? :-)

This is day seven on the bike this year.
