I had another wimpy month on the bike!
November: 22 miles1=72,691 – 72,669
2012: 933 miles272,691 – 71,758
I still want to bike 1,000 miles this year so I need to bike 67 miles in December.

October: 47 miles172,669 – 72,622

We finally got rain, a little before the middle of the month, and it’s stuck with us. Although I have rain gear in the closet, I lost the waterproof cover for my pannier earlier in the year. Although I don’t mind getting a little wet, my laptop must stay dry during the commute.
I’d make more excuses, but that would bore even me.
It’s time to jump back on the bike and get 89 miles before the end of the year. That shouldn’t be too hard.

It was another beautiful month on the bike!
September: 105 miles172,622 – 72,517
2012: 864 miles272,622 – 71,758
Other than one ride to school board after work (8.6 miles to home) and a trip to the Evergreen campus (5.9 miles to home) the rest of my riding was commuting about 7 miles to work, round trip. If my math is correct, that’s 14 days on the bike this month. Not bad considering I traveled for business a couple of days and was sick a few days.
Now that the days are shorter, the sun is lower when I’m riding. I’ve been using my blinkies again to be more visible. The ride home after the board meeting was in the dark, peaceful and quiet. I don’t think a car passed me the whole way home.
So far, still no rain. My rain gear is sitting lonely and unused in the closet. Unfortunately, I lost the waterproof cover for my pannier. I still haven’t decided whether I will try to make a cover or buy a better pannier.

August: 127 miles172,517 – 72,390
2012: 759 miles272,517 – 71,758
I didn’t bike too many miles this month, but it was all for commuting or transportation purposes. I had no “let’s go for a bike ride” miles.
About 11 of August’s miles were bike commuting to the Folsom Intel site last Monday. I brought my bike when we took Melissa back to college. I love their bike paths along Lake Natoma and the American River.
The mornings have been getting cooler, which is nice. I can ride harder without worrying about arriving a sweaty mess. I wonder how long until I need to worry about rain. It’s been a dry summer.

Thanks to our Sunriver vacation, July was a big month for bicycling: 226 miles!172,390 – 72,164 That’s more than 2.5 times last month’s distance.
My distance for 2012 so far is 632 miles.272,390 – 71,758 At 20 mpg and $3.50 per gallon,3Close enough that’s a savings of $110.60. Ignoring any other benefits of riding, this is funding my rack, pannier, and rain gear I got last year.
I feel fortunate to work close enough to home that I can commute by bike. It helps clear my mind going both directions. :-)

Whoever put the +/- Average Speed Indicator on my bike computer is a sadist. I always want to be going faster than my average. As a result, it keeps increasing…
Ouch!
Maybe it’s time to put some tape over the display and just track distance.
Does your bike have a computer? Does it affect how you ride?

Once again, I recorded my cycle computer’s vacation data before heading off to work:
| Actual Time Moving | 13:33 hours |
| Distance | 118.05 miles |
| Average Speed | 8.7 miles per hour |
| Maximum Speed | 23.0 miles per hour |
The average and maximum speeds were very close to last year’s data, with the distance and time much improved.
This will be a good month of cycling for me. How is your cycling going?
