  • Ride to Work Week: Taking the Long Way

With this being Bike to Work Week, I plan on riding as much as possible. Today, I rode more than planned.

I packed my pannier, pumped up my tires, put on my gloves and sunglasses, and headed out. About a mile down the road, I noticed I wasn’t wearing my helmet. Oops! I don’t like to ride without my helmet, but I figured I’d survive one day without it.

Another mile farther, I noticed I didn’t have my pannier. I turned around, rode home, got my pannier — and my helmet — and headed back to work.1And my 3.3-mile commute ended up being more than 7 miles…

When I got to work I took off my gloves, my helmet, my sunglasses, and noticed I’d forgotten to latch my pannier.

I’m waiting for my caffeine to kick in. Until then, I’ll be double-checking everything.
