Quick evening trip to Cannon Beach

Late afternoon, Ashley knocked on my door. “Dad, are you almost done working? Would you want to go to Cannon Beach to see the sunset?”

In a few minutes, the three of us were out the door and on our way. We made it to the beach with enough time to hike to Haystack Rock before the sun dipped behind the waves.

What a great way to end the day!

Btw, a day that had started with another picture from my photo spot, across the street from the Hillsboro airport.

  • Mousse at the beach

    Mousse at the beach

Mousse loves the beach. She gets to be off-leash. She gets to play fetch. She gets to play in the water. She gets to meet other dogs. Did I say she gets to play fetch? What’s not to like?

Today, she decided she was going swimming. Well, that wasn’t necessarily the plan, but she was going to fetch whatever it was that was thrown into the waves. Fortunately, she has learned “come” and Melissa had a tennis ball in her hand. A little doggie body surfing and she was back on dry land.

After collecting our water, sand, and pizza, we jumped in the car and headed home.

Another fun time at the beach. :-)

  • Kayaking With Mousse On Sunset Lake

Kayaking With Mousse On Sunset Lake

For our Saturday excursion, Suzi and I rented1By the way, if you are looking for a nice place to rent some recreational kayaks around Seaside, Cleanline treated us well. I’m sure they’d do the same for you. The owner is friendly. That wasn’t too surprising. The kids who helped put the kayaks on my car were friendly, too, introducing themselves, shaking my hand, asking how my visit was, etc. Wow! four kayaks to explore Sunset Lake. Ashley got a larger life vest for Mousse.2Although we also got one for Meisa, it’s going back; Meisa said nothing doing to putting on a life vest so she could sit on a tippy kayak. Instead, Meisa relaxed, tied up at our campsite.

Suzi, Ashley, Heather, and I boarded our kayaks. Ashley had Mousse join her. Things went swimmingly until Mousse went swimming. Thanks to Mousse’s life vest and its handle, Ashley was able to get Mousse back on board. Turns out, Mousse likes to swim and is fast. And Mousse likes to swim a lot! With her life vest, we didn’t worry about Mousse getting dog tired. We could paddle next to her and let her dog paddle.

Another fun day on the water.3Yeah, that’s redundant. ;-) :-)

  • Holy Saturday at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

Holy Saturday at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

This afternoon,1On the eve of Easter or Holy Saturday. Interestingly, this is not the same as Easter Saturday. we decided to visit the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. On the way, we hit some heavy rain, but the weather was nice when we arrived. We had most of the park to ourselves. When the rain finally arrived at the garden (with a little sleet and hail mixed in for variety) we decided it was time to leave.

How to Name a Baby. Among other things, why Ashley will be an “old lady name.” Good to know…1Though it’s too late for us. Yet, when discussing her name’s fate with her, Ashley seemed quite comfortable with it.

  • A Beautiful Day at Cannon Beach

A Beautiful Day at Cannon Beach

Our family has a tradition of visiting the Oregon Coast to start the new year. This year’s visit was a combination anniversary and birthday celebration with outstanding weather as part of the present.

The lot of us took a bunch of pictures.1Yes, the picture of the chairs is a redo of last year’s picture. For that matter, the other pictures are redos as well, but no one seems to notice that as much. Not surprising, as photography is serious sport here.

We celebrated Ashley’s birthday a little early with an excursion to Hood River and Multnomah Falls.
