We have a tradition in our family: on the first day of school, we pose the kids on the lawn in front of the Japanese maple tree and take some pictures.
Earlier this summer, Ashley graduated from college and passed her nursing boards. Now we get to start a new tradition. This past Friday was Ashley’s first day of work.1At least, if you ignore the summers working at camp, the tutoring, the shifts at the front desk, the piano lessons she’s taught, working at the care facility, etc. Here is the commemorative snap.
We’re so proud!

Growing up, we had the same tradition. My homeschooled kids are putting a crimp in this! Congratulations to the Logan family for parenting well.
My brother’s oldest are launching new phases too. One starts college today, the other is trying out for the Navy SEALS this week.
Gary, thanks! By the way, homeschooling doesn’t need to get in the way of this tradition. Unless you’re doing year-round homeschooling with no ceremonial transition between grades (and why wouldn’t you?), your kids still get a first day of school.
Congrats to your brothers oldests. Sounds like they’re both doing well.
